The Meaning of Dreams
“I had another crazy dream last night”
How many times have you heard someone say this or said it yourself?
This is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. In fact many dream interpretation experts think that people who claim to not dream may have psychological issues.
Have you ever sat down and chatted with someone before and discovered that you share the same dreams? This is because we share many images that are common to us. It is also commonly referred to as archetypes. Let’s take a look at some of the meanings of dreams we have in common:
- Teeth
- Music makers and the dreamers
- Recurring dreams
- Whales in dreams
- Flying
- Dreams about teeth falling out
- Cats in dreams
- Carcass of dead pigs
- Dream tornado
- Ex lover
- Numbers
- Shattered glass
- Subways
- Bells in dreams
- Losing property
- Death
There is no real mystery why we share common dreams when you think about it. It is the meanings that will likely differ from person to person. I wrote an article on dreaming about your teeth where you can see that there are several meanings of dreams of this nature. My point is because we are unique the definition of dreaming is different form one mind to another.
I am going to share a dream I had as a child with you. First I should tell you I am 45 years old and when I had this dream I was 13. It has remained etched in my memory for 32 years. The dream is as clear as I had it today like it was yesterday. In my dream I was at an apartment building that was under construction. There were no people living in it. I was on my bicycle that my father made me. It had a small “go cart” wheel on the front and a fat slick tire on the back. I was with my friend Tracy.
Tracy and I went into the underground parking on our bikes and peddled very quickly to the top of the building. Once we reached the top we climbed through small cubby hole to the roof. When we got on the roof we play war games with fire extinguishers. Hiding and ambushing each other only to end up with being completely saturated by the white sodium that sprays out of the nozzles of the fire extinguishers.
The game continued, running harder and faster to try and escape or attack the pretend enemy. Without realizing it our game moves closer to the edge of the roof. I quickly peek out of the roof top air conditioner I was hiding behind only to get shot by Tracy who was waiting for me. I slip and fall of the roof. I feel the butterflies in my stomach as I plummet to the ground…but I never hit the bottom. I keep falling for what seems like eternity.
I woke up covered in sweat yelling and screaming. Is this real or a dream as I lye awake. It probably took five minutes in the darkness of night to convince me I was awake and alive. For me it wasn’t an eager desire, as a 13 year old to find the meaning of this dream. Many years later it still haunts me. I have since become very passionate about the meaning of dreams.
Connecting with your inner mind and body is believed to be achieved by yoga. It is where you are doing spiritual work and moving through the dream state or meditation. Having a spiritual connection through meditation can bring you closer to a special dream you had and help you become more cognizant of future dreams. Many dream interpretation psychics believe that spirituality is a key to the true origin of dreams.
If you read Freud’s amazing analysis studies on dream meanings you will understand why this 19th century research is still of tremendous value to dream researchers today. Sigmund Freud’s dream studies were conducted in his psychiatric practice where he closely examined interpretation of dreams. He found many commonalities in dreamers and how each personality type could have predictable dreams. Dream interpretation is considered so important by Freud and his theories are thought of as pivotal in today’s’ the meaning of dreams research.
