Cover whole cucumbers with boiling water and allow to stand tillmorning, drain. Repeat this on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th days. On 5th day drain and cut into ½ in. chunks. Combine sugar, salt, vinegar. Place pickling spice into a bag made of cheesecloth or similar fabric. Place the spice bag into the syrup solution. Bring to a boil and pour over cucumbers and let stand 2 days. On the 3rd day, drain and bring syrup to a boil. Remove spice bag and bottle and pour syrup over the cucumbers. Seal into sterile jars.

5 teaspoon salt (pickling)
8 cups white sugar
4 cups cider vinegar
