Preheat oven to 350°F. Microwave 1 cup morsels in small microwave-safe bowl on high power for I minute; stir. Microwave an additional 10-20 second intervals, stirring until smooth. Cool at room temperature. Combine oats, flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt in medium bowl. Beat granulated sugar, butter, eggs and vanilla in large mixing bowl until smooth. Beat in melted chocolate. Stir in oat mixture. Cover: chill dough for 1 hour then shape dough into 1 inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on an un-greased baking sheet. Press centers with thumb. Place maraschino cherry into each centre. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until set. Let stand 2 minutes, remove to wire rack to cool. Melt remaining morsels, drizzle over cookies. Makes 4 dozen.

2 cups (12oz package) Semi sweet chocolate morsels, divided
1 ¾ cups Quick or old fashioned oats
1 ½ cups all purpose flour
¼ cup baking cocoa
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
¾ cups granulated sugar
2/3 cup butter or margarine (softened)
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups (two 10oz. jars) maraschino cherries, drained and patted dry
