A History of Yoga and How we Experience it Today

The History of  Yoga

Hatha Yoga means Sun & MoonTo connect with others we must first learn to connect with ourselves. Kundalini, Hatha, Ashtanga, positions and positional vertigo are always teachers (gurus) who show you how to make contact with your inner being. This is a spiritual technology that has been employed by the human race since 1000-5000 BC. The spiritual growth technique originated in India where Induism is still practiced today.

Paramahansa YoganandaParamahansa Yogananda is the person that introduced western society to Yoga in the early 1900’s. It was introduced as a way for people to get acquainted with themselves. Paramahansa is known for his writings. He was a young Indian Yogi who is well known by his book “Autobiography of a Yogi”. The main areas of focus for Yogananda’s teachings are a discipline of meditation or Kriya Yoga. It is based on several areas of the human spine where energy is transferred.

Thoracic SpineThe thoracic spine is considered by Yoga masters as the communication channel to the brain. It is a known fact that we do not use the capacity of our intelligence engine (the human mind). In fact, it is believed that the subconscious power is 30,000 times greater than your conscious brain power. By employing various techniques such as Naropa exercises, Palodies exercise, power exercise, exercise Pilates and satyananda exercises it may provide a gateway into the depths of our brain that is not normally available to us.

An Explanation of Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini YogaYoga Kundalini is very calming and easy to grasp. Kundalini for beginners is energizing and focuses on bringing resting spiritual energy to the bottom on the spinal area to the body. Some believe it is a form of modern day witchcraft and is associated (by some Christians) as exercising of the devil. Kundalini meditation are practices that can also be associated with religious values that connect you closer to god.

Advanced Ashtanga Yoga Series

It is not recommended for the beginner. It is highly demanding and has six levels (series). Those possessing a physically fit condition will best cope with the various postures and flexible positions. These positions are a steady motion, moving from one smoothly into the next. It is very challenging to your level of flexibility. Joints to bones are manipulated in unusual positions on your body.

The basic elements are body, spiritual and philosophical and your instructor is known as a Guru. It is very fast paced and when your complete sessions they are relaxing and relieve stress.

Reversing Heart Disease

“CHANNAI, India – Yoga induces a feeling of well-being in healthy people, and can reverse the clinical and biochemical changes associated with metabolic syndrome, according to results of studies from Sweden and India.”

By simply having a positive outlook many natural advantages occur such as the healing process.

Mysore Ashtanga

When you first enter a Mysore Ashtanga class it seems chaotic. One you become a part of a class you will begin to see repetition in the exercises you do. During the yoga exercises the sound of breathing is prevalent. The Guru will often help others by suggestions and adjusting bodily movements.

Ashtanga Yoga Vinyasa

This ancient form of yoga workout consists of several steps and positions. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga consists of a series of breathing exercises. We begin this yoga aerobic exercise with Surya Namskara A = sun salutation. Ahtanga primary series is the most demanding segment of this yoga exercise because it is the beginning step and the beginning has the highest degree of challenge.

Sat Kriya is the primary element to Kundalini mantra. A few Kundalini symptoms include cramps, spasms, muscle twitches, energy rushes, body circulation, stinging, vibrating, prickling or a burst of electricity.

Four Meanings of Yoga

Positions are practiced so that your bodily energy has a free flowing path of existence. There are 4 main paths to yoga,

Raja or Royal- This is the path on mind control in the physical and mental sense. This is often considered the Yoga of mental and physical control. It requires you to give permission to your inner being to allow a direct pathway for brain and full- bodily command.

Karma or action- This form aides in sharing and becoming a less selfish person. It is known as the path of service. Treating others as you would like to be treated is the basis of this exercise. It teaches you how to separate yourself from the consequence of your actions.

Bhakti or devotion– It is the path of worship. It will allow you to cultivate acceptance and tolerance for others. In India it is the most popular path.

Jnana or wisdom- Often regarded as yoga of the mind, it is the path of inner inquiry. By practicing this popular yogic tradition it will enhance development of intellect. It is a serious study of scriptures and texts of the yoga. Although all forms of yoga exercise serve as a channel to your body and mind, this one is more for the intellectually inclined.
